Discover Yourself and write your own constitution!

Mindfulness Coach

The constitution is a word that quite intrigues me. Mostly it's referred to in the context of a nation and we often use it to understand our rights. A lot of political parties, organizations also have that.

When I looked up the word the following definitions popped up courtesy of the Oxford dictionary-

A body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.

And that got me wondering, what is my constitution, what really governs and defines me beyond these laws, rules, rights and regulations. And that the same question I pose to you.

Have you ever wondered or gone about defining, what is your constitution?

  • What do you really stand for? not as a community, not as a part of any organization but as an individual.

  • What do you really like? not what an influencer or a critic does.

  • Where do you want to go? Not where everyone is going

  • What you really like to do? not what someone else is doing or someone else wants you to do.

  • Who do you really support? not who your peers are supporting.

  • What is your identity? Not the identity of where you work or study

  • What you truly believe? not what you tell people

  • And do you know that what your biggest right is?

It’s that you can afford to be yourself.

This is a world full of noise and a lot of times it drowns your own voice. The voice that tells you what you really are, and what you really should be. Every one of us is blessed with that unique voice as we were all created as an individual identity, not as someone’s clone.

Sometimes due to social conditioning, peer pressure, personal incidents we forget or subdue our own individual identity. We follow other people’s lead, sometimes forgetting to evaluate that what has worked for them might not work for us. We sometimes travel to places we don’t want to but because it is what is trending on social media, not because we genuinely want to go there, we eat, we watch, we follow a lot of things because that’s what others are doing.

Over the years, I have met so many people who are working/taken up professions which they hate but are soldiering on, sometimes due to fear and many a time due to the fact that they have never got down to think and define what they really want to do.  A lot of time people go astray in life because they blindly followed a wrong set of people as they never defined their rules.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
— Aristotle

That’s why it is very important to go within or sit with your coach to go on a journey of self-discovery and define what you really stand for and write it down as your own constitution (not in contradiction of the legal document of the country where you live off course) defining what you really are, what are your rules, what works for you, what doesn’t, what you really love and most importantly what is the kind of life you seek so that you can make a plan for it.

And once you complete this journey of self-discovery you might realize that you are really a tiger/tigress or a bird who has been running a rat race all this while.
